SAS/CPE for Open Systems was developed from internal programs that werewritten to help manage the Institute's own large UNIX network. Whilethere are a number of products on the market that monitor UNIX systemsand networks, few organize and analyze the data over time for trending.NEW_PARAGRAPH SAS/CPE software is a menu-driven system that format-endsthe tools of Base SAS, SAS/FSP, SAS/GRAPH, and SAS/INSIGHT software forsystem and network performance management. Data collected form variousperformance management platforms are supported for creating thePerformance Data Base (PDB), which is then organized and maintained foruse in reporting baseline, trend and exception analysis. Each sitedetermines what data and what level of detail they wish to collect andanalyze. Data transformations and data reduction are also taken intoconsideration. NEW_PARAGRAPH Interactively, an easy-to-follow GUI guidesthe user through the available facilities. In batch, fully documentedmacros are available to automate many processes. NEW_PARAGRAPH UsingSAS/CPE software, network administrators can identify, investigate andresolve problems; performance analysts can perform strategic managementthrough workload characterization and projections; and data centermanagers can receive regular summaries and analyses of operations.
